CSC Sponsored Exhibitions

Overview

The CSC sponsors exhibitions each year. Detailed information about the actual running of the events is in the Exhibition category in the menu above. The discussion here is a short description of what exhibitions are about.

Our 3D exhibitions are just that: a showing of 3D images. There are multiple format categories of 3D images supported by our exhibitions, and each category has image entries submitted from around the world. Each category, other than the stereoIMAGEnation one (see below) also is sanctioned by the Photographic Society of America (PSA). A collection of the best images are selected from each category (getting one's images accepted into an exhibition is much like a "contest" because images compete with each other to be selected). Each collection is then publicly displayed for people to enjoy.

Holmes Stereocards

A classic!

These are cards that are about 3.5 inches high by 7 inches wide. They have been around "forever". Commercial cards traditionally are black and white images on stiff card stock that often were slightly curved. Modern cards often are in color, although black and white is still used. The exhibition will only contain newly made cards containing images taken by the exhibition entrants.

Realist Format Slides

Format from mid last century

This format consists of two photographic film slides held in a mount that holds them roughly eye spacing apart. The mount is about 4 inches wide and 1-5/16 inch high and was standardized by ANSI 3.11-1953. However, the modern version allows for a larger film image to be used in the same mount.

Phantograms

A new format

In the exhibition, this format is provided in the form an anaglyph with red and blue glasses used to view them, but unlike traditional anaglyphs where the image is viewed "through a window", a phantogram looks more like the image is immediately in front of the viewer.

Digital

Exhibition on the web

Pairs of images, each a digital JPEG image, are submitted for this exhibition. Those selected are shown in the exhibition section (top menu) of this website. The pair of images on the top of this page is an example (view with one's eyes crossed).

StereoIMAGEnation

Exhibition on the web

This is the same as the digital category to the left except that there are fewer restrictions in that images need not be photographs. They are allowed to be computer generated or hand drawn as well as being photographically produced.
